Machined Finishes
If smooth planed timber is not your preferred style, you can choose a sawn or textured surface to add character and depth to your exterior cladding. It is an easy way to enhance the appearance of timber cladding UK options
Overview
Looking for something beyond a smooth, planed finish? Choose a sawn or textured surface to add depth and character to your timber cladding.

Planed
If no alternative finish is requested, this will be supplied as our standard option, providing a smooth planed finish to the visible face of your chosen cladding profile.

Sanded
Some coating systems work best on a sanded finish, as it helps the coating bond more effectively to the timber. This type of finish is also a great choice for internal applications, offering a smooth and consistent surface across our timber cladding.

Re-sawn
This finish is a popular choice for traditional feather edge cladding, particularly on more rustic-style projects, and can also be applied to other cladding profiles on request. A re-sawn surface helps coatings last longer by improving adhesion to the timber.

Vin-Tex
This finish creates a distinctive, textured surface, often described as combed. Applied to the face of the board only, it allows different cladding profiles to be machined while maintaining a consistent, uniform texture. The added surface texture also helps coatings adhere more effectively, supporting a longer-lasting finish.

Structured
This finish can be produced in different levels of texture, and each timber species will respond slightly differently to the depth of brushing. Structured finishes are especially popular on coated timber cladding when a visible grain is desired, adding depth and highlighting the natural character of the timber on the surface.

Charred
With a wide choice of charred finishes available, it is important to select the right timber species for this type of application. Different depths and colour tones can be achieved, not only black, so we recommend giving us a quick call to talk through the best options for your project.

Fixings
For the best results, we recommend using corrosion-resistant stainless steel fixings -A2 or A4 grade – to meet EN 10088-1 standards.
Fixings should suit the thickness of your cladding boards and provide a secure hold.
For softwood cladding, annular ring shank nails are ideal. You’ll find full installation and fixing guidance, including batten specifications, available here.
